Goalkickers Hately 3, Aston 3, Budarick 1, Heard 1, J Langley 1, S Langely 1, Gitsham 1. What a game!!! Coming up against a side second on the ladder and one that had previously beaten us both times,we knew the boys had to play at their best from the first bounce to the final siren. Our midfield, back line and forwards dominated the whole game. Very pleased to see committed kids playing team football first. Most contests had 4-6 Walkerville players at the ball, nearly always out numbering the opposition. Our boys were prepared to tackle hard, shepherd and used their voices well, backed up with hard running. All players contributed well....a good effort boys! 4 wins from the last 5 games shows a real improvement to this teams efforts!

GOAL SCORERS: Callum Wilkie 3, Daniel Costalonga 1, Max Marslen 1, Harry Cudmore 1, Will Goode 1, Cameron Pritchard 1. BEST PLAYERS: Earl Kellie, Callum Wilkie, Sam Beer, Harry Cudmore, Harrison Wigg, Will Van Dissel, James Duncan. We played a lot like we hadn’t been together as a full team for 3 weeks and our mid-field was largely made up of lads who had already played 5 games in the last 6 days (this was number 7!). So we had a group that had trouble getting it all together at the same time. All showed some good form, but many of the boys had trouble sustaining their performance for more than 50% of the time.
In the end it was a commendable victory. We really need to build our game plan from here, so the trainings over the next couple of weeks are going to be all important. The more we can get the group together and practise toward how we want to play on a Sunday, the better.
See you at training lads.

GOAL SCORERS: Olly Collison 2 Patrick Farrugia 1 and Key Peterkin 1. BEST PLAYERS: Cameron Pritchard, Adam Gwinnett, Harrison Wigg, Daniel Costalonga, Olly Collison, Matt Burgess, Will Van Dissel and Aaron Gwinnett. You would think a score line like this would be concerning, but I could not have been more proud of the way every boy in the team represented himself and the Walkerville Junior Football Club today.
We had 13 players unavailable and had to call on three U14 players, just get a starting 18! Those 3 boys all had to leave for their U14 game after two minutes of the 4th quarter and we played out the last term with only a couple of our players forward of centre, with just 15 left on field.
It is important to say that, despite selecting “best players” and presenting some lads with awards, this was truly a match where “all played well”!

Summary A great 4 quarter effort with all boys playing well. Very pleased that when Hope valley hit the front in the 4th quarter, we played harder than ever to get the lead back. 3 wins from the last 5 matches could put us in a good position to make the finals. GO WALKIES!!!!

Best Players: Harrison Wigg, Adam Gwinnett, Cameron Pritchard, George Bouras and Patrick Farrugia. We took a step forward in our ability to contest the opponent while also working to win the ball. We also improved in our determination to get across to a team mate in support when he held up a contest – and on a number of occasions that supported to us taking the ball away.
Overall we still need to improve our ability to do all the defensive things instinctively, without having to be told from the sidelines – on a number of occasions, we had players who were “off the ball” and on their own when we had it in the forward lines, but not aware of opponents who were loose and open to taking the ball on the rebound if we lost control up forward. We also had occasions where there was not enough desperation in chasing to the loose ball. Players ran, but didn’t sprint, until the opponent had the ball when often, they may have got to the ball at the same time or even before the opponent.

It was a day of “plugging holes”. We went into the match with a height disadvantage and could not compensate for it because we were not clean enough with our ball gathering. We were unable to mount any lasting pressure on Modbury because we weren’t properly seizing our opportunities. That gave them opportunity to use their height advantage whenever they scrambled a kick on the turn over as they were rarely kicking to a situation we could properly contest in the air. Add to that the fact that our intensity in the contest was not sufficient on many occasions and winning the game was always going to be hard.
• our run and spread from behind, but for a couple of players, was terrible
• our desire to get the ball into our hands MUST get stronger or we will be pushed aside time and again by opposition teams with more grit and willingness to NOT give up ANY contest

It was great to see the boys play with added system and structure to record their second win of the season. With a few boys away or injured, we put as many as we could on the park and managed to get a full team together. We can see the boys pulling togtehr as a team more and more each week.

The first quarter was the worst we have played all year and something we never want to see again. Whether it was complacency or something else, the commitment to the contest and the intensity of effort was left to only a few. Thankfully, the likes of Ned Murdoch, George Bouras, Aaron Gwinnett and Patrick Farrugia were strong and reliable and kept us in the contest when others were still getting their act together.
Areas of concern:
• our run from behind dried up to almost nothing for nearly the whole day
• the initial effort will see us lose games in the first quarter against the better teams if we serve it up again

The players continued their great work from their last game. The improvement from the team as a whole each week is evident. All played well. Goalkickers: Korte, Trevaskis 2, Clarke, Davidson, Karytinos
