U14 Red v Athelstone - Sunday, 4 July 2010

Walkerville 18 16 def Athelstone 1 2

This was a vastly improved effort on last week. The whole team, to a man, was ready to work hard today. Our effort to shift from offensive mode to defensive was much more immediate and complete. This was particularly pleasing because we made a special focus of it during the week and before the game. At times players on our half back line were drawn a little far up the field, although Venkha was a stand out for being disciplined enough to stay back and play a “sweeping” role that saw him drive us forward time and again.

The full back line was a model of discipline in the way they performed their roles and then worked to set up our forward run, once we had control of the ball.

Will Van Dissel was an early casualty with a dislocated patella (knee cap), disappointing for him after a bright start at half forward. Hopefully the week off will mean he is back with us sooner than later.

Keep a check on your email lads as the detail on positional play will be out soon. Meanwhile, enjoy the break from training and matches. We will see (most of) you on the track on Thursday July 15, with the next match being on Sunday July 19.
