U14 v Golden Grove - Sunday, 30 May 2010

Walkerville 8 5 def Golden Grove 0 3

The lads put on a very good team display today in difficult conditions. The boys rallied at every request, taking their team performance to a higher level in each quarter. Tackling has been a focus at training recently and our rate of effective tackles improved today. We still need to make more but there is obvious improvement, with Adam Gwinnett showing the way today. A much emphasised point this year has also been the need to follow from a handball to support the receiver with a shepherd - this was also seen on a regular basis today. Henry Lodge was a shining light in this regard during the match. The team skill that was very prominent today, and essential to our game plan, was the play on, especially through the use of a player presenting from behind. We had more 1-2 handballs today than I recall ever happening before with this group.

Special mention goes to our two “new” players, Lachy Pye and Will Goode who both made auspicious debuts.

Pooraka is next and we have another opportunity to further develop our ability to play good, team oriented football.

See you on Thursday at Training boys!
