About the Walkerville Junior Football Club.

Welcome to the Walkerville Junior Football Club.

WJFC is a successful, welcoming and well-run club located in Adelaide, South Australia. and playing in the North-East Metro Junior Football Association (NEMJFA) competition – one of the largest in Australia.

Successful

Walkerville is proud of its standing as one of the stronger teams in the NEMFJA league. In the past five years Walkerville teams have won numerous NEMFJA Grand Finals in the U11 to U15 age groups.

The Club is also recognised as a ‘nursery’ for future AFL players. In the 2011 season former Walkerville players in the AFL will include:

  • Angus Monfries (Essendon)

  • Ed Lower (Kangaroos)

  • Nick Lower (Freo)

  • Will Minson (Bulldogs)

  • Nick Duigan (Carlton)

  • Lachie Roach (Crows)

  • Callum Hay (Power)

  • Matthew Wright (Crows)

Former AFL players who played junior footy at Walkerville include

  • Tom Harley (Geelong Captain)

  • Ben Hart (Crows)

  • Josh Francou (Port)

  • Jonathan and Matthew Robran (Crows, Hawthorn)

  • Nick Holland (Hawks)

  • Ben Holland (Melbourne)

  • Greg Gallman (Crows)

  • Michael Wundke (North Melbourne)

  • Henry White (Bulldogs)

We are very proud of our success and love to see our teams win. But that’s not our first priority – the clubs philosophy is to create an environment where all boys who want to play football can play at their best under a good coach.

Welcoming

The club is open to all players aged five to sixteen (U6 - U16.5), and we welcome new recruits (and their parents) in every age group.

Each year we try very hard to accept every boy who wants to play for the club. The only way that a boy who wants to play may miss out is if there are too many players for one team in his age group, but not enough to make up two.

In the event that some players have to miss out, we try to give preference to the boys that want to play the most, not necessarily the best players.

The only time players may be chosen on ability is during finals (U11s and above), when coaches put their best team on the field. Even then, many coaches make sure that all their players get a chance to experience the excitement of finals.

Registration day is held in early February each year, and all players must register – including those who played the previous year. While we do accept some late registrations, the best way to get a game is to turn up on registration day. The Club’s registration policy is included in the registration information sheet, which is available a few weeks before registration day.

Well-run

Walkerville has won the NEMFJA Joe Courier award, which recognises the best-run club in the competition a number of times. The club is run by a strong, harmonious committee that oversees all aspects of the club, including football operations. The committee works hard to set clear, fair policies and to make sure that they are followed consistently.

The Club's sucess is the result of the hard work of many people over many years. In 2006 the Club began awarding life membership to its long-term volunteers.
